Arsenal move for TWO additional Manchester City stars this summer: report – FourFourTwo
Arsenal are looking for two Manchester City players to overtake the Premier League champions.
The Gunners made Gabriel Jesus their big signing 12 months ago when they brought the Brazilian to north London with the offer of more regular football. Just weeks later they added Oleksandr Zinchenko – and both were tangible hits at the Emirates Stadium.
But Arsenal’s recent 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City in the title fight has made it clear that Mikel Arteta’s men still have a long way to go to reach the level of their rivals. In the aftermath of that clash, Arteta has been linked with a few more City stars.
According to the Spanish outlet Sport (opens in new tab)Arsenal are keenly interested in adding Ilkay Gundogan to the squad when the City captain’s contract expires this summer.
90min (opens in new tab) meanwhile claims the Gunners could also bring Joao Cancelo to the Emirates Stadium, in another double whammy for Eastlands stars no longer wanted by Pep Guardiola.
Gundogan was Guardiola’s first signing when he moved to the Premier League and has held a number of roles within the side over the years. Arteta was likely to use the German as number 8 opposite Martin Odegaard, while Granit Xhaka was rumored to be headed for an exit byThe sun (opens in new tab).
However, Cancelo could be an option on either side of the team as Arteta prefers inverted full-backs. The Portuguese can be used as an alternative to Zinchenko on the left, but can also be used instead of Ben White at right back.
Arteta joined Manchester City after retiring as a player to work under Guardiola as an assistant coach. The Basque’s first signing when he joined Arsenal was Pablo Mari, a former City youth player.
Arsenal are four points behind City in the Premier League.

Arsenal have already been linked with a host of big names ahead of a season back in the Champions League.
Mason Mount is an option in midfield, with Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic and Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby in attack. Both Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Crystal Palace star Wilf Zaha are also on the radar. Meanwhile, cult hero Mathieu Flamini has refused to rule out a purchase from Arsenal.
