Brenden Aaronson offered a new role following the Premier League transfer approach – The Mirror
USMNT midfielder Brenden Aaronson may be given a route back to the Premier League following Leeds United’s final day relegation from the top flight.
The 22-year-old represented something of a coup for the Yorkshire team last summer when the 32-time international joined from Red Bull Salzburg for £24.7 million. Leeds United became an enclave for American talent over the course of last year, with then coach Jesse Marsch also bringing in compatriots Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie.
However, despite the fanfare that accompanied these acquisitions, they couldn’t beat the decline following Marsch’s firing in February. All in all, Aaronson endured a tough first campaign, scoring just once in 40 appearances in all competitions in a season to be quickly forgotten for the Elland Road club.
Ultimately, Javi Gracia’s appointment as Marsch’s replacement didn’t really take off after a promising start and he was sacked, with Sam Allardyce bringing the club down after four games in his post. Relegation on the last day of the campaign after a 4-1 dismantling at Tottenham meant the one-time England manager was also shown the door.
Now Fulham look poised to offer Aaronson an escape route from the EFL Championship after an otherwise disappointing first season in England. Despite Leeds’ struggles, Marco Silva seems eager to bring the young American to Craven Cottage, according to the Daily Mail.
According to the report, the Portuguese boss sees the former Philadephia Union star as a perfect reinforcement in the ‘number 10’ position as he looks to strengthen his squad this summer. The West London club was one of last season’s surprise packages as the newly promoted team spent most of the season in the top half of the league table before finishing in tenth place.
Leeds United could struggle to retain Aaronson, with a clause in the player’s contract stipulating he could leave on loan if the team are relegated from the top flight. The American youngster could very well lead an exodus from the Yorkshire club, with a host of stars likely to leave.
Fulham are also keen to secure the services of Manchester United midfielder Fred, who could be available this summer for just £20 million. According to the Telegraph, the Cottagers could see him as an option if they can reach a compromise on possible compensation.
According to another report from the Daily Mail, The Whites full-back Rasmus Kristensen is in talks with Jose Mourinho’s Roma ahead of a potential loan move to the Serie A giants. Diego Llorente could also stay at Stadio Olimpico after spending the second half of last season in the Italian capital.
Club captain Tyler Adams was linked with a move from Elland Road last month, with the American one of Leeds’ better performers last season. Everton are also monitoring the availability of attacking duo Willy Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, according to the report.
