Chelsea transfer news: Levi Colwill wants talks with Mauricio Pochettino before considering new deal – Sky Sports
Levi Colwill wants to speak to Mauricio Pochettino about his status at Chelsea before considering discussing a new contract.
Chelsea have insisted that the player is not for sale this summer after a good season on loan at Brighton and they want to approach him to discuss a new deal.
However, England U21 want to understand where he fits into Pochettino’s plans this season and how much regular playing time he can expect, before discussing new terms.
Colwill, who has a contract until 2025, will try to understand how central he is to those plans when he returns to pre-season training following his international duty at the Under-21 Euro Cup.
He is expected to participate in Sunday’s quarterfinal against Portugal in Georgia.
Colwill is widely regarded as one of England’s best central prospects and is something of a staple given that he is left-footed.
But he is also competing with Benoit Badiashile, a £35m signing from Monaco in January, for the left-centre job at Chelsea.
Brighton wanted to sign Colwill permanently this summer but flatly turned down a £30m offer amid Chelsea’s insistence that he is not for sale and that they want him as part of Pochettino’s plans.
As well as Brighton, Colwill has been on the target lists at a host of Premier League clubs.
