Chelsea transfers: Declan Rice ‘love’, double whammy in midfield, Cesar Azpilicueta’s future

Thomas Tuchel has a great day ahead of him. Chelsea are preparing for a big game against Crystal Palace on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Football’s oldest competition is the only feasible piece of silver left for the Blues this season, with the league seemingly out of reach as they were knocked out of the Champions League midweek. It means that the clash against the Eagles represents a great opportunity for the German coach.

He spoke of the challenge ahead in his pre-match press conference: “It’s a great opportunity to play at Wembley. We have to be very well prepared to control counter-attacks, individual quality, dribbling and play with the same level of intensity They can create a certain atmosphere, especially at Selhurst Park but also at Wembley.”

While the focus will be predominantly on the game, the Chelsea hierarchy will no doubt be looking at plans for next summer, with a huge transfer window. The Blues have been linked with several players, and football.london check out the latest transfer rumours.

Thomas Tuchel “loves” Declan Rice

Chelsea have long been linked with a move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice. The 23-year-old has continually impressed with the Hammers, most recently guiding them to a Europa League semi-final.

With his central ranks in possible need of a revamp, The Athletic reports that Thomas Tuchel “loves” Rice as an option. They also claim that Conor Gallagher could feature in his return to Stamford Bridge from his loan while Aurelien Tchouameni is being scouted.

Exit Cesar Azpilicueta

Chelsea club captain Cesar Azpilicueta has extended his contract due to an appearance clause this season but still looks set to leave at the end of the season after ten years at the club. In that time, the Spaniard has won several trophies, but could leave for a new challenge.

And, as Sport reports, the defender does not expect to stay with the West London team. As a result, Barcelona are reportedly interested in offering a contract to sign him in the summer.

Double hit in midfield

The Blues have been dealt a potential double whammy in their chances of beefing up their midfield this summer. Speaking to Tuttosport, agent Le Mee has discussed the possibility of Juventus affecting Tuchel’s transfer plans.

He said: “Watch out for Jorginho, he can become an opportunity given the situation at Chelsea. But the best shot for Juventus would always be Tchouameni: he is a phenomenon. Also, for this reason, Monaco will not give discounts.”
