Covid Live News Updates: Omicron at Community Transfer Stage in India, Says Government Agency

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is in the community transmission phase in India and has become dominant in multiple subways where new cases have risen exponentially, the INSACOG said in its latest bulletin. It also said BA.2 lineage, an infectious sub-variant of Omicron, has been found in a significant proportion in the country. The INSACOG said in its Jan. 10 bulletin released Sunday that while most Omicron cases to date have been asymptomatic or mild, the number of hospitalizations and ICU cases has increased in the current wave and the threat level remains unchanged.
