That’s right, according to Star Sunday, Crystal Palace are considering a move for troubled Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte. A move for a player as great as Laporte would be a true statement of intent from Hodgson and one that tells the top half of the table that Palace is ready to compete with such players.

Given the dominance of players like Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and John Stones in centre-back, there isn’t much room for Laporte to fight for his space. At 29 years old, playing time is of the utmost importance for the Spanish international defender. Therefore, signing for Crystal Palace can appeal to him.
