Dominik Szoboszlai transfer is Liverpool shift as tempting $121m Jürgen Klopp duo to emerge – Liverpool.com

It was always going to be a big summer for Liverpool in terms of changes, but the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai signal a major shift in what Jürgen Klopp’s side will look like next season.

Mac Allister, signed from Brighton for $44 million (£35 million/€41 million)was an excellent start for the company that Liverpool would complete this summer – but the Argentine was only the beginning.

Liverpool indicated that part of the reasoning behind Jude Bellingham’s departure this summer was that more than one midfield addition was needed – and with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai it will have duly succeeded.

Last season, Mac Allister scored 12 times (six penalties) and provided three assists. Szoboszlai, who has a transfer clause of $ 77 million, scored 10 times (two penalties) and provided 13 assists.

In the same period, Liverpool had very few goalscorers in midfield, as has been the case for some time. For example, the famous trio of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Gini Wijnaldum left the scoring to the front runners.

Something has changed with Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fábio Carvalho, but the three of them only scored 11 in all competitions last season. That is clearly the model for the future; Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are now also modeling it.

If Liverpool were to line up with Fabinho supported by Trent Alexander-Arnold at the base of midfield, with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai rolling left and right respectively in the more attacking number eight, it would completely change Klopp’s side.

The emphasis would of course remain on those up front to keep scoring goals, but they would be complemented by a real goal threat from behind – something that was often not the case before.

Both Mac Allister and Szoboszlai can shoot from range, which should encourage the defense to close them in, creating more space in the back for the likes of Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota to exploit.

The duo provide a considerable amount of last-third threat and one thing that is absolutely certain about this Liverpool team next season is that they will score a lot of goals.

Spreading the burden of creating and finding the net is just what Liverpool need to take the next step in their midfield evolution, with players like Elliott and Jones also fitting perfectly into those positions as they continue to develop .

With Mac Allister and now Szoboszlai, Liverpool have created the most exciting midfield for Fabinho the Brazilian has played with, with great flair and technical ability.

The challenge is to prove it can be just as effective as the more ‘functional’ trio that won the lottery – but it’s certainly going to be very exciting.
