Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool’s arrival of £50 million star hinges on one departure from Arsenal: CaughtOffside
Despite having already signed two top midfielders, Liverpool are expected to target a third.
So says the leading transfer expert and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano, who has spoken out about The Reds’ proposed pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
Lavia, 19, is likely to leave the Saints following the club’s relegation to the Championship and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising defensive midfielders.
And with Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and veteran James Milner all leaving Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season, it goes without saying how important it is for Jurgen Klopp to replace his midfield.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already made transfers from Brighton and Hove Albion and RB Leipzig respectively, and Romano says Lavia, although Klopp loves Nice’s Khephren Thuram, is a top target.
‘They want another one [midfielder]”Romano said on Monday’s DeBrief podcast.
“[…] They’ll be discussing Khephren Thuram internally this week, he’s certainly always been on the list and will continue to be on the list, so he’s a player they really value, but he’s very expensive.
“But it’s also important to mention that Romeo Lavia is also expensive because Southampton want around £50 million, but from what I’ve heard Liverpool have had some direct contact from both the club and the players’ side in recent days to to help him.” examine the terms of the Romeo Lavia deal.”
Romano went on to explain how a deal for Lavia could play out and hinted that Arsenal’s attempts to push Thomas Partey off could be key in deciding which team wins the race.
“It is not yet time for an offer, […] but they are well acquainted with Romeo Lavia.” he added.
“They know Arsenal are there too, but for Arsenal it depends on Thomas Partey. They are working on this possible exit of Partey, but it’s not that easy. Arsenal will let Partey go if they get a good proposal, he’s not a player they want to sell for a normal or cheap amount, so this is an important point.”
