FC Barcelona aims for Bernardo Silva of Manchester City in 2023
It’s no secret that FC Barcelona went out of their way to sign Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, but financial constraints at the club ended up short of what they could offer in terms of transfer fees and wages.
Current Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has not held back on the Portuguese midfielder who said any team could use players like Silva after the ALS charity match between the Catalans and Cityzens in August.
“Who doesn’t love Bernardo Silva? But also [Kevin] debruyne, [Erling] Haaland… They have a great team. There is no news about Silva. He is an important player for Pep [Guardiola] and City. But yes, I love him as a player.”
“He understands everything and has a great ability to make decisions. He is a very important player for Pep and he makes the difference on the pitch.” added Xavi.
The 28-year-old is reportedly happy with his future and staying at the Etihad Stadium. New revelations suggest that this saga is not quite over and that a transfer in the near future could well cross the line.
Graeme Bailey van 90Min reports that Barcelona, Juan Laporta and Xavi all remain interested in signing Silva, and plan to pursue their goal next summer, if not sooner.
“Barcelona have Silva firmly in their minds and they plan to relaunch their hunt for the Portugal international next summer, while sources with knowledge of the negotiations have also revealed to 90 minutes that a January offer cannot be ruled out. .” wrote Bailey.

Although it is unlikely that City will let a player of Silva’s caliber leave the club by the turn of the year. With current financial constraints in Cataluyna, Barcelona is expected to try again in the summer of 2023 to sign the talented midfielder.
