Speak with RMC Sports ahead of Villarreal’s Champions League semi-final against Liverpool, French midfielder Francis Coquelin has discussed the Spanish side’s European performance so far.
The former Arsenal is particularly talking about last year’s Europa League final victory over Manchester United, which he saw as “revenge” above Sir Alex Ferguson.
The former manager had spoken in his autobiography about the midfielder’s role in an 8-2 loss to the Gunners in 2011. “He was completely out of his depth. I had barely heard of him and he barely played.”
“It was a bit of revenge because when I made my Arsenal debut we lost 8-2 at Old Trafford and Sir Alex Ferguson criticized me a bit in his biography so it was a nice little turning point to win the Europa League against them to win. “
“In addition, I think he was in the stands too, so it was nice to lift the trophy for him. I was looking for him, he must have seen me.”
