FSG sent blunt Liverpool transfer message as signature count needed to be clear – Liverpool Echo

More than 4,300 Liverpool fans don’t trust Fenway Sports Group (FSG) to adequately support Jurgen Klopp as the German looks to revamp his squad after a disappointing 2022/23 season.

The Reds have not missed Champions League football for the first time since 2016 and have already added both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai after seeing long-serving stars such as Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita leave at the end of their contract.

However, it is somewhat clear that further additions are a must. But it seems Liverpool fans don’t have full faith in FSG’s cost-effective recruiting style when it comes to finding new signings.

53% of supporters who answered the ECHO Big Liverpool Forum, for a total number of 4,363, told us they don’t trust FSG to support Klopp enough in his efforts to build a winning team. However, it should be noted that 47% (3892) believe the ownership group led by John W. Henry and Tom Werner can help the former Dortmund boss deliver even more silverware to the club.

There was significantly more support for striker Darwin Nunez from those who took part in the forum. The Uruguayan, who was signed from Benfica for a whopping sum last summer, was able to score just nine Premier League goals in his debut season and took time to adjust to English football. Though Nunez no doubt showed flashes of tremendous talent which suggested why the Portuguese giants demanded such a high fee for his services. At 24, he has plenty of time to repay that faith.

83% of fans who took part in the forum believe the possible club record signing will ultimately work out at Anfield, meaning Nunez has 6,898 Liverpool fans who want him to succeed at Merseyside. Only a small 17% believe he will flop.

Elsewhere, 7,704 (92%) fans will welcome the arrival of Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, after declaring that midfield should be Liverpool’s top priority in the transfer window.

Still, 76% of fans are still not satisfied. They think the Reds will need to sign between four and seven players this summer. Romeo Lavia, Levi Colwill and Kephram Thuram have recently been linked with moves to Anfield.

While there was not full confidence in FSG during the investigation, Liverpool fans do have confidence in new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke. The 59-year-old recently replaced Julian Ward and 80% (6495) of supporters trust him to put The Reds’ transfer affairs in order.
