Germany will host the European Football Championship from June 14 to July 14, 2024 countdown in Hamburg
The countdown to UEFA Euro 2024 is now underway in Hamburg following a campaign launched in June to see residents score 365 goals under the motto “One year to go”. The opening game starts in Hamburg, one of the ten German cities where the championships take place.
Europe looks to Hamburg next year
“Football will make all of Europe watch Hamburg next year,” said Christoph Holstein, State Council for Sports, at the launch event for UEFA Euro 2024. Hamburg Marketing GmbH thus wants to use the tournament as an opportunity to attract global attention to the city . “My hometown of Hamburg is a sporty and welcoming city. Cosmopolitanism, internationality, commitment to diversity and passion for sport are written in capital letters here,” said Patrick Esume, commissioner of the host city. Almuth Schult, national goalkeeper, said: “Big tournaments like the European and World Championships are always special. Not only for me as a player, but people from different countries and cultures meet around the games. This creates a unique atmosphere full of anticipation and emotion in the stadiums and beyond.”
First volunteer program at UEFA Euro 2024
The championships will be held under the theme “United by football. United in the heart of Europe” in Germany with 24 countries. Five matches are played in the Hamburg Volkspark Stadium in front of 50,000 spectators. Hamburg will also host the preliminary round group draw at the Elbphilharmonie on December 2, 2023. This large-scale event will determine in which of the six groups the 24 best teams in Europe will compete against each other. The quarter-finals will be held on July 5, 2024. UEFA is also launching a new volunteer program with the host cities. In Hamburg, about 1,600 volunteers were needed to work in the stadium or city during the championship. Applications can be submitted online. A fan festival is held on the Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg.
