NEW DELHI: Daily coronavirus cases continued to rise on Thursday, with Delhi reporting its highest one-day rise on record with 28,867 new infections.
Several other cities also reported a spike, but Mumbai reported a 16% drop with 13,702 cases compared to 16,420 cases on Wednesday.

India reported 620 new Omicron cases on Thursday, bringing the total to 5,488.

Of the major states, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu reported the highest increase in cases compared to Wednesday at 17% and 16.5% respectively. Maharashtra registered a marginal decrease in daily cases.

Among the major cities, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai reported an increase in cases, while Mumbai reported a nearly 17% decline and Kolkata also registered a marginal decline.

India registered 2,47,417 new infections on Thursday, the highest in 236 days, bringing the total to 3.6 crore. The active caseload currently stands at 11.17.531, according to Union Ministry of Health data. The daily positivity rate has reached 13.11%.

Meanwhile, the country reported 380 deaths in 24 hours, bringing the number to 4,85,035.
