The defender known as Tiri has been signed by last season’s league shield winners on a one-year contract, which will see the Spaniard remain at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Tiri was delighted to join the Islanders and looks forward to winning more trophies with the team, stating that he is looking forward to starting the new chapter.
“I’m glad to be here and join Mumbai City. The culture of this club is held in high regard throughout the league and the ambitions here are for all to see,” Tiri said after signing his contract with Mumbai City FC.
“I’ve been playing in India for a long time, but I want to keep winning and I’m looking forward to defending the league title and winning trophies with Mumbai City. It’s a new chapter for me and I’m very excited about it.” he started with “.
Mumbai City head coach Des Buckingham revealed how the club scouted the defender and was delighted at the addition of a player who can settle down quickly having already played in the league for many years.
“Tiri is a player I have followed and enjoyed watching since I came to India. He is a very good defender and has many of the qualities we look for in our players in this position,” Buckingham said.
“His consistently high performances and understanding of the ISL will help him adapt quickly and help us continue to develop our game. I am very happy that he has decided to join us and I look forward to his experiences in helping our team continue to fight for success next season”. .”
Born in Los Barrios, Spain, the 31-year-old began his professional career with his hometown club Cádiz CF. He made 49 appearances for his ‘B’ team from 2009 to 2012, including making two appearances for the Cádiz first team in 2010.
In 2012, Tiri moved on to play for Atlético de Madrid, where he became a central member of the Atlético de Madrid ‘B’ team, representing them on 85 occasions between 2012 and 2015.
In 2015, the defender made his first step into the Indian Super League when he joined Atlético Kolkata and was a key member of the ATK team that reached the semi-final.
He returned to the Kolkata-based side for the 2016 season after a brief stint at home with Atlético Madrid’s ‘B’ team. Tiri established himself as one of the most consistent defenders in the league during the 2016 season in which Atlético De Kolkata lifted the ISL trophy.
Tiri moved to Spanish third division team Marbella FC in 2017 and after making six appearances for the Spanish side, he returned to the ISL. The centre-back joined Jamshedpur FC ahead of the 2017-18 season.
After three years with Jamshedpur, making 49 appearances and scoring three goals, Tiri moved to ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020. He suffered an unfortunate injury ahead of the 2022-23 season which kept him out of league action before returning in the Super Cup 2023.
With 110 league appearances in an eight-year span, Tiri is one of the most experienced and decorated foreign recruits in ISL history. The Spaniard joins Mumbai City ahead of the Islanders’ league title defense and historic campaign in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League.
Tiri is the second defender to join Mumbai City FC this season following the arrival of left-back from Hyderabad FC and Indian football team Akash Mishra, who signed a five-year contract last month.
