Researchers from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) in Australia have developed a mathematical model that predicts how antibodies generated by Covid-19 vaccines protect against symptomatic infections and to what extent. The study is published in the journal Nature Computational Science.
The researchers argue that predicting the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines would help further develop vaccine and use strategies. To achieve this, they developed a multi-scale mathematical model that represents mechanistic links between the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine and the neutralizing antibody (NAb) responses they elicit.
The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has sent a message to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) requesting an explanation as to why sewage has entered the Horamavu-Agara Lake, which has led to the death of fish. Residents of Horamavu saw dead fish floating in the lake on Sunday.
A senior BBMP official from the Lakes Department said: “Yesterday, officials from the BBMP and KSPCB visited the lake. We found sewage entering the lake through the stormwater drain. To prevent this, we have created a bypass channel. Unfortunately, the BWSSB is installing underground sewage pipes for the 110 villages that have recently been added to the municipal body and have yet to be connected to the main line. The resulting ingress of sewage into the lake leads to reduced dissolved oxygen levels, causing the death of fish. The KSPCB has sent a notice to the BWSSB seeking clarification.”
