Kylian Mbappe makes Premier League preference clear as Liverpool get ‘cold’ Khephren Thuram update – Liverpool Echo
It has been a week since Liverpool expressed their intention to trigger Dominik Szoboszlai’s release clause.
That hastened the RB Leipzig star’s move to Anfield and he was unveiled as the club’s second summer signing on Sunday. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will go for a third signing in the summer transfer window.
But while interest in the likes of Khephren Thuram, Ryan Gravenberch and Gabri Veiga has either cooled or ended, speculation continues and the Reds remain interested in Levi Colwill and Romeo Lavia.
And below is a recap of the latest transfer gossip about Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappé’s future remains in doubt as he enters the final year of his Paris Saint-Germain contract. With much speculation surrounding the striker, Liverpool has typically been a name spoken out about his future following their interest prior to his move to the French capital – and last summer before he signed a new contract with PSG.
The Independent has reported that Real Madrid intend to hold off their interest in Mbappé so they can get him on a free transfer within 12 months. It comes despite PSG having expressed a preference to sack the Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner of the past five years this summer in order to receive compensation.
PSG leader Nasser Al Khelaifi admitted he cannot allow their prized asset to leave for free, but the report says Madrid do not want to hand over a penny to the French champions.
A Liverpool move, it has been reported, is outside the club’s transfer plans. But it has been suggested that Arsenal would be Mbappe’s preferred Premier League option regardless.
Khephren Thuram
ECHO reported this week that Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Khephren Thuram remains unchanged at this stage as the recruitment department decides on the next course of action following Szoboszlai’s arrival.
But speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have been put off by the price tag quoted by OGC Nice for the French midfielder.
He said: “At the moment the situation in Khephren Thuram is cold because he is considered too expensive. Not only at Nice, but also on the salary side. So at the moment it is a complicated one, but the player has always been valued.”
Layton Stewart
Young Liverpool striker Layton Stewart is reportedly a loan target for Barnsley, Blackpool and Northampton, according to Football Insider.
The 20-year-old returned to action last season after a long spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. Now the outlet claims the Football League trio are looking to give the Liverpudlian his first lasting taste of senior men’s football.
The Reds are said to believe a loan move is the best option for Stewart’s development, according to the news site.
