Leeds (31 points – 19th) are relegated from the Premier League after being beaten 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on the final day of the 2022-23 season.

Harry Kane scored a further two goals to complete his second 30-goal season, as Tottenham (60 points – 8th place) missed out on the Premier League’s final European place and Aston Villa beat 6th-placed Brighton to qualify for the Europa Conference League. Now the Spurs face a painfully crucial summer of signings and signings.

It was a nightmare for Leeds, who not only needed a win of their own, but points to be dropped above them by both Everton and Leicester. Tottenham’s first foray into the Leeds penalty area ended with Kane hammering the ball past Joel Robles.

New half, same story for Leeds, conceded barely a minute into the second half. Kane changed providers this time, as he shot a blind ball into the channel for the overlapping Pedro Porro, who barely had a target in his sights as Robles smothered the near post. But Porro shot from a tight angle just inside the far post.

Leeds gave themselves a faint hope as they pushed home after Georginio Rutter picked him off between two defenders in the 67th minute, but Kane answered just two minutes later with his second of the day and his Tottenham’s 280th – and possibly final – goal -career .
