Liverpool are still being linked with a move from Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
The 26-year-old has been a key player for club and country in recent seasons and was recently linked with a departure from Italy.
Liverpool need to bring in reinforcements in central midfield and the 26-year-old Italy international could prove to be a quality asset. Barella adds creativity, control and technical prowess in the middle of the park.
Liverpool struggled to control games last season and some like Barella will help them keep possession and use the ball better.
Barella was a key player in Inter Milan’s run to the UEFA Champions League final last season and would be an upgrade for the likes of Jordan Henderson.
In addition, Liverpool have parted ways with James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita on free transfers. They will have to adequately replace these players.
So far they have attracted Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion. They need to get more midfield reinforcements and Barella certainly fits the profile.
According to Italian outlet Il Tempo (h/t Paisley Gates), Liverpool would be willing to offer €80 million for the Italy international.
Barella is at the peak of his abilities and could improve Liverpool immediately. He has the technical attributes to be successful in English football and could be a key player for Jurgen Klopp next season.
The Italian recently helped his country to the European Championships and he knows what it takes to win big trophies. The midfielder also recently won the Italian league title with Inter Milan.
While £80m seems like a high price to pay, Liverpool would certainly get a top player in return.
