Liverpool inquire about Levi Colwill ‘several times’ as Chelsea transfer stance is clear – Liverpool Echo

Liverpool have inquired about signing Chelsea defender Levi Colwill this summer.

That’s according to ECHO’s sister website, football.london, which reports that despite Liverpool’s clear interest, Chelsea remain determined to keep the young defender.

The 20-year-old will return to The Blues once the European Under-21 Championship, where he represents finalist England, has concluded. Colwill is in demand this summer after a very impressive 2022/23 season on loan on the south coast at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Seagulls have sought to sign their former mercenary on a permanent basis as two bids have been rejected by Chelsea. It is believed his parent club are looking to tie Colwill to a new long-term contract, with his current West London contract set to expire in less than two years.

However, there is still some doubt about his future. Colwill wants certainty about the amount of first-team football available to him at Chelsea next season and will face competition from fellow left-footed defender Benoit Badiashile. Liverpool are reportedly aware of this and have reportedly inquired several times in recent days about the England U21 international’s availability.

In what could be seen as another barrier to a possible move to Anfield, newly appointed Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino is also mentioned as being excited to work with Colwill. He will report for pre-season in the coming weeks and will sit down with the Argentine to discuss what lies ahead.

The Reds are said to be considering adding another centre-back to their ranks ahead of the new season. Jurgen Klopp is seen as a huge admirer of the former Huddersfield Town star, having caught the eye during his time at the AMEX stadium last season.
