Manuel Ugarte last
There are conflicting reports about Liverpool’s pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
Last night Goal’s Neil Jones reported that sources at Anfield rejected talks that The Reds were targeting the midfielder.
Following Jurgen Klopp’s comments on Liverpool’s appeal without Champions League football, the journalist wrote: “Liverpool are looking to sign at least three new players in the summer, with the midfield being a key area of focus…
“However, sources at Anfield have dismissed reports in Portugal suggesting a transfer of Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP is on the club’s agenda this summer. The Uruguayan international, 22, is not a target for the Reds.”
Although reports in Ugarte’s native Uruguay suggest otherwise.
Rodrigo Romano, a South American journalist from the region, reported that both clubs were negotiating for the midfielder, with Jorge Mendes conducting the talks.
The 22-year-old is said to be very likely to leave the region this summer in the last major departure from Portugal’s top flight. However, Liverpool are not the only club wanting him, it is said.
