Liverpool transfer news as Alexis Mac Allister gets ‘green light’ and claims $175 million race – Liverpool.com
Liverpool are interested in signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer and a reporter in Argentina, the 24-year-old’s home country, has offered an update.
Meanwhile, there is also a slightly bolder claim coming from Italy surrounding a very expensive (though very, very good) striker that Liverpool are supposedly interested in.
While Jürgen Klopp’s side are expected to spend heavily this summer, it is expected to be more in midfield than in attack. Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo were recently purchased.

An attacking purchase cannot be completely, 100 per cent ruled out, but one that would cost so much that reinforcements in midfield would be difficult, probably could be.
Nevertheless, Liverpool have been linked with a costly move for Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen, as well as a host of other clubs who, frankly, might also find it hard to find the kind of money the Serie A champions would demand.
Here’s Liverpool.com’s verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with a move for Mac Allister certainly much more plausible than the addition of another big-money number nine.
Victor Osimhen (Napoli)
According to today’s Corriere dello Sport (print edition, via Paisley Gates), Liverpool are among the sides hoping to sign Napoli striker Osimhen this summer.
But the Reds won’t be the only ones to opt for Osimhen, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Bayern Munich also listed as keen on the player, who could cost as much as $175 million (£141 million / €160 million).

Chelsea would be willing to pay cash and inclusively Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Pulisic in a deal, but Osimhen is hesitant to give up Champions League football next season, even if he could leave Naples.
Liverpool. com says: This is a highly unlikely transfer move for the Reds. For starters, we don’t yet know if Liverpool will secure a place in the top four. Even if it is, attracting another attacker is not a major priority. That $175 million would be much better spent on two or three midfield signings, and almost certainly will be.
Alexis Mac Allister (Brighton)
Argentinian journalist Germán García Grova says Brighton has given the green light to the departure of Alexis Mac Allister this summer, with a price tag of around €87m.
The same reporter says Liverpool are the ‘best positioned’ side to complete the transfer, with the Reds keen to make Mac Allister a key part of Anfield’s summer rebuild.
While $87 million would be a hefty price to pay, Liverpool would have to accept the need to pay a premium to bring in Premier League-proven talent who needs no time to adapt and a flying start can make.
Liverpool. com says: Spending that kind of money is what Liverpool and FSG just have to accept this summer. To solve midfield problems in the long run, there is no short cut: it is going to be costly.
