Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy believes his old club will be “desperate” to sign Mason Mount.

The Reds have been linked with a move from the Chelsea midfielder before the transfer window opened in January. And in recent weeks there have also been rumors that Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle are interested in signing Mount.

As things stand, Mount’s current contract with Chelsea expires at the end of next season. He would then enter the last 12 months of his deal from this summer.

Chelsea would like to give the 24-year-old an extension. However, it has been reported that negotiations between the two sides have stalled in recent weeks.

Murphy has explained why he thinks a number of clubs would like to sign Mount, but believes Liverpool will be “desperate” to secure a deal.

“I would definitely want to keep him because I know what I’m getting,” Murphy told Talksport.

“I get 100 percent commitment from a player who loves the club. Who has great technical skills and who can play in multiple positions.

“I think he’s a super talent and a really good character. I’m on board with him. I love everything about him.”
