Highlights of the news in Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Tuesday that his government is committed to ensuring that women’s upliftment programs reach their intended beneficiaries and said new women’s empowerment policies will be unveiled shortly. Thackeray greeted women on the occasion of International Women’s Day at an event here and said that women are not just limited to cooking and raising children, but that they have gone beyond these duties to be equal to men in all areas.
Meanwhile, Mumbai registered 60 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, a day after adding 38 infections, bringing the total to 10,57,016, a civilian official said. The death toll from Covid-19 remained unchanged at 16,692 with no new fatalities reported during the day, the official said. Daily coronavirus infections had remained below 50 on Monday (38) and Sunday (46), while the daily addition in the metropolis had fallen below 50 for the first time after April 2020.
On the weather front, the first pre-monsoon rainfall is forecast on March 8-9 in 18 counties across the state. Light rain is also predicted for Mumbai on Tuesday and Wednesday and temperatures remain above normal in the city.
