Brighton won’t hold staff hostage when offers come in – chief executive Paul Barber
Brighton & Hove Albion are sticking to their policy of allowing key staff to talk to other clubs after the loss of head coach Graham Potter to Chelsea.
They gave Potter permission to speak to Chelsea last week after determining that £20 million in compensation for the surrender clause in Potter’s contract would be met.
Paul Barber, CEO of Brighton, said: “Football clubs are not prisons. We are not in a position to hold employees against their will.
“What we try to do as much as possible is protect ourselves with contracts. Contracts, we hope, will always be respected, but where people have an excellent opportunity and they think it’s better for them, their careers, their families, than we do have an open mind.”

Marcus Edwards can play for England — Ruben Amorim
Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim believes former Tottenham winger Marcus Edwards could play for England in the future.
The 23-year-old will face his former club tomorrow for the first time since his departure in 2019.
In seven games this season, Edwards has scored three goals and three assists after coming over from Vitoria Guimaraes last January.
“Marcus is a very talented player,” said Amorim ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League match in Lisbon.
“He took time to adapt to the Portuguese lifestyle, but now that he has adapted to our team, he is becoming more consistent.
“He can get a lot better and play for the England national team. I trust him, he can grow a lot, he still has a long way to go, but we have done an excellent job hiring him.”

Robert Lewandowski ready for special game against Bayern Munich — Xavi
Barcelona manager Xavi has said Robert Lewandowski is “highly motivated” to go into tomorrow’s game against former Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski returns to his former home of eight years, where Bayern and Barcelona face each other in Group C of this year’s Champions League.
The veteran Pole urged Bayern to sell him to Barcelona in the summer, with the Germans reluctantly accepting a fee of up to €50 million (£43 million, $51 million), including extras.

Chelsea vs Liverpool, Man Utd vs Leeds postponed ahead of Queen Elizabeth II funeral
Three Premier League games, including Chelsea vs Liverpool and Manchester United vs Leeds United, have been postponed ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
In a statement on Monday, the Premier League said: “After extensive consultations with clubs, police, local security advisory groups and other relevant authorities, there was no option but to postpone the three games.”
Brighton’s game against Crystal Palace on Saturday had already been canceled due to train strikes. The match at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Leeds on Sunday will no longer take place as scheduled, with police efforts concentrated in the capital. Similarly, Chelsea’s game at Stamford Bridge for later kick-off has also been canceled.

West Brom signs free agent Rogic
West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the signing of free agent Tom Rogic to a one-year deal.
The 29-year-old midfielder has played 178 league games for Celtic in nine years, scoring 32 goals.
Albion was forced to dive into the free-agent market after the chases of Joshua Onomah and Steven Alzate collapsed on the 11th hour deadline. Manager Steve Bruce was keen to add midfield reinforcements, especially after Alex Mowatt left Middlesbrough on loan for a season.
Rogic, who has 53 caps for Australia, adds depth to the center of the park, where he will support Jayson Molumby, Jake Livermore and Turkey international Okay Yokuslu.

Graham Potter on what kind of team he wants at Chelsea
Potter said: “It’s about creating a team that competes, that respects each other, that is fair, that works for each other. So it’s a combination of, I would say, human and football values that we try to work with.
“I think you have to understand first that they (players) are people and the most important thing is to understand them, understand what motivates them and understand how they are as people.”
