Premier League results, standings and relegation standings, European places set – Sporting News

The 2022/23 Premier League season closed its last day and made the last two rulings in the relegation battle and the race for European places.
Everton got the win they needed to stay afloat thanks to a goal from Abdoulaye Doucoure in the second half, although it wasn’t all plain sailing.
When Leicester took the lead in their game, Everton fans briefly wrestled with the scenario of going down until Doucoure Goodison sent Park into a panic. An important save from Jordan Pickford in stoppage time prevented a late Bournemouth goal that would have sent Everton down.
Going to the championship Southampton will be Leeds United and former Premier League champions Leicester city. Leaky defense cost Leeds again on the final day against Spurs, a 3-1 defeat that was a microcosm of their season. And Leicester were agonizingly short on safety, leaving their supporters puzzled at their club’s rapid decline.
Aston Villa took last European place thanks to their home win over Brighton. That secured a 7th-place finish and a Conference League spot in 2023-24 for a team that was once in the relegation zone. Villa finished ahead of Spurs and Brentford, who both finished outside Europe.

Premier League final day live updates, highlights
Full-time
Last: And that’s it. Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal was enough to keep Everton afloat. Leicester put themselves in position to stay afloat, but Everton’s victory ended their hopes. Jordan Pickford made an injury time save that saved the win.
Aston Villa’s win took 7th place and Unai Emery put in a sensational managerial performance to lift the Villans from the relegation places to Europe.
Brentford ended their season by doing the double over Man City. Meanwhile, Arsenal beat Wolves, Roberto Firmino scored in his last Liverpool appearance and Harry Kane reached the 30 goal mark.
85th: As long as Everton win they are safe. As long as Villa wins they will earn the Conference League spot. We are in the last five minutes of the season.
78th: SOU-LIV, ARS-WOL targets. Liverpool have made it 4-4 at St. Mary’s, while Arsenal have hit five against Wolves.
66th: LEI-WHU target. A goal from Wout Faes means Leicester are well on their way to doing their part and winning the game. But they need Bournemouth to score against Everton to stay afloat. They need Everton to drop points.
Southampton extended their lead against Liverpool, Arsenal added another, Man United went ahead against Fulham and Crystal Palace drew level in a game against Forest that means little.
60th: EVE-BOU target. It is Abdoulaye Doucoure who fires a shot from the top of the box and they would be safe if this result holds, with Leicester and Leeds going down.
49th: LEE-TOT target. Things are looking bleak for Leeds, who are now 2-0 down at home to Spurs after a goal from Pedro Porro. It looks like Leeds will join Southampton and another team for the Championship.
48th: SOU-LIV target. The first goal of the second half comes from Southampton, who made up a 2-0 deficit at home to make it 3-2.
Peace
Peace:As things stand, it’s Leicester City that would be safe (thanks to Harvey Barnes’ goal) with Everton and Leeds going down, while Aston Villa cling to last place in the Conference League.
Remarkably in that first half, Harry Kane scored again (No. 29 of the season), and Roberto Firmino got one in his final game for Liverpool.
43rd minute: AVL-BRI target. Deniz Undav scores for Brighton on a wonderful ball from Julio Enciso and Aston Villa is not yet free in their search for Europe.
36th minute: LEI-WHU target. Harvey Barnes puts Leicester 1-0 ahead and with Everton’s 0-0 draw, Everton are currently going down with Leeds.
30th minute: SOU-LIV, ARS-WOL, CHE-NEW targets. They score freely in the games that do not affect the standings, while Aston Villa have finished their game against Brighton with a 2-0 lead.
17th minute: ARS-WOL, SOU-LIV targets. Arsenal take a quick two-goal lead courtesy of Granit Xhaka, while Roberto Firmino scores a goal in his final game to double Liverpool’s lead.
10th minute: CHE-NEW, SOU-LIV targets. In games that don’t seriously affect the table, Anthony Gordon has the opening goal for the Magpies and Diogo Jota nets for Liverpool.
8th minute:AVL-BRI target. Aston Villa take the lead over Brighton through a goal from Douglas Luiz. And a win for them would secure their spot in the Conference League.
2nd minute: We have kick-off in all areas. And there is an early goal for Leeds and Harry Kane scores straight away.
20 minutes to KO: This is what Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag said about Antony’s absence.
🚨🇧🇷 Erik ten Hag about Antony: “We all saw how he got off and it didn’t look great, but the first assessment is not too bad and chances are he will be available for the final next week.”

20 minutes to KO: LiverpoeI give a final start to James Milner and Bobby Firmino, who leave at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Leeds look set to move to a five-man backline against Spurs.
30 minutes to KO: Bournemouth Neto, Joe Rothwell and Hamed Traore are missing, but Philip Billing and Dango Ouattara are back and they are players who can impress against Everton.
Meanwhile, here’s the scene outside Goodison Park:
