Jun 4 – Chelsea, Liverpool closing in on big goals

Reports from Fabrizio Romano say breakthroughs are near for Chelsea and Liverpool when it comes to midfield additions.

Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign striking Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte for around $65 million, with Romano saying “important hours are coming” in the race to fend off Paris Saint-Germain.

And the father/agent of Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister is expected to arrive in Liverpool to work out the final personal terms between the Reds and the World Cup winner. Then it goes to Brighton and Liverpool, for a fee that is not considered a problem. (NM)

Jun 3 – In-demand $40 million backup name checks Liverpool

Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven has dreamed of playing at Anfield since attending a game there as a youngster. An excellent ball progressor, Van de Ven is seen as a $40 million target and Jurgen Klopp is reportedly an admirer. So it is a society of mutual appreciation.

“I went to the Liverpool stadium with my father once,” he told AZ WAZ. “That was on Boxing Day at Christmas. Liverpool vs Arsenal. That was madness. Then comes ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ [on] – that was a goosebumps moment, that was very cool. It’s a dream to play there.”

The 6-foot-4 Van de ven turned 22 in April and was the captain of the Dutch U-21 team. He moved from Volendam to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2021 and became a full-time starter in his second season, occasionally swinging through to left-back. (NM)

Jun 2 – Man United in ‘detailed talks’ for young forwards

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are in ‘detailed talks’ about the signing of Randal Kolo Muani and Rasmus Hojlund. The young attacking duo are both being chased by the Red Devils, as Erik ten Hag wants to add one of them and a more experienced striker. According to the report, John Murtaugh has spoken to both Eintracht Frankfurt and Atalanta on multiple occasions about Kolo Muani and Hojlund respectively, and United hopes to continue chasing summer goals despite uncertainty over their ownership status as the Glazer family have the option of a full or partial sale. of the Premier League giants. Kolo Muani and Hojlund both fit the type of player Erik ten Hag wants and if United sign one of them and somehow pull off an unlikely move for Harry Kane (probably due to Daniel Levy’s reluctance to do business) then they will it be so. a great summer for the Red Devils. Jun 2 – Gvardiol wanted by Manchester City

According to a report from The Times, Josko Gvardiol is at the top of Pep Guardiola’s wish list this summer. The Croatian defender, 21, is valued at $108m by RB Leipzig and while the German giants are unwilling to sell, Gvardiol thinks he is keen on a move to City. The report says City are planning to sign at least one of their centre-backs and all John Stones, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake are confident of staying with Aymeric Laporte, perhaps the most likely. Gvardiol has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and his power in the air, speed and skill on the ball are a perfect fit for the Premier League and City. Josko Gvardiol also got a good look at City this season as Leipzig were hammered by Erling Haaland and Co. in the UEFA Champions League. We have seen this season how Guardiola’s side dominated the last months of the season, not only because of their incredible goals, but mainly thanks to a solid defensive unit. Having mobile centre-backs who can play as fullbacks and move into midfield is key to their style of play. Gvardiol can. (JPW)

Jun 1 – Manchester United move to the front of the line for Mason Mount

A report from ESPN says Manchester United are front of the line when it comes to signing Mason Mount this summer. The 24-year-old Mount has only one year left on his contract with Chelsea and is expected to leave this summer. Mount has been linked with moves to United and Liverpool, but the report says Mount is keen to join United, although the Red Devils have some reservations about the $75 million transfer fee Chelsea are asking for. According to the report, clubs are waiting for later in the summer to try to buy Mount, as they know Chelsea will have to move players due to the huge squad that Mauricio Pochettino has inherited and will have to shorten. Does Mount to United make sense? It does. He can be deployed anywhere in Erik ten Hag’s midfield and is the perfect player to add depth to their squad and be a great 12th man or step in when key midfielders are injured or in need of rest. His time at Chelsea is clearly drawing to a close and while Mount has struggled at Chelsea this season, his quality has been proven in recent years in the Premier League and on the international stage with England. May 31 – Liverpool eye Bundesliga midfielder

Imagesays the Reds are turning to the Bundesliga to address their midfield. Jurgen Klopp will turn to Borussia Monchengladbach’s Kouadio “Manu” Kone this summer as Liverpool have reportedly told the player it will be closing in on Gladbach. The 22-year-old Kone has been linked to several big clubs, including a report in late March about Manchester United’s interest. Kone, a ball progressor who reads the game very well, would carry a price tag of more than $40 million. (NM)

May 30 – Chelsea all in on Ugarte

Chelsea are in talks to sign Manuel Ugarte, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Uruguayan and Sporting Lisbon midfielder is admired by new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. Romano says PSG are also in the running for Ugarte. Ugarte, 22, is exactly the kind of player Pochettino likes. Alongside Enzo Fernandez, Ugarte will add extra defensive stability to Chelsea’s midfield and improve the balance of their squad. Our UK partners at Sky Sports say Ugarte has a $65m release clause in his contract. (JPW)

May 30 – Declan Rice linked with Bayern Munich

Our partners at Sky Germany say Bayern Munich are very interested in signing Declan Rice from West Ham. Bayern, who won their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title on the final day of the season, have made 24-year-old Rice their main target as Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the England international.

Here’s more of thisHeaven Germanyreporter Uli Kohler: “Tuchel had a phone call with Rice. I don’t know what they were talking about – maybe money, maybe what to expect here [in Munich]. Bayern love him. They need a strong defensive midfielder, but everyone knows that many other clubs are interested in him. Bayern could afford it. They want to keep it under 100 million euros [£86.4m]. They have to look very closely at their bills, but I think they can afford it.”

Rice has long been linked with a move to Arsenal or Manchester United, but it is believed that West Ham’s asking price for their captain and central midfielder (who expires next summer) is to hang Premier League clubs. Bayern appear ready to pay close to the $120 million West Ham wants for Rice. Is he worth it? He is. There may not be a better two-way midfielder under the age of 25 in Europe and Rice’s ceiling is extremely high. (JPW)

May 25 – Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Mason Mount are summer goals for Man United

A report from our UK partners at Sky Sports says Manchester United are looking to sign a trio of England internationals – Harry Kane, Mason Mount and Declan Rice.

“Manchester United will try to sign Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Mason Mount this summer. Their number 1 target is Kane. He is the player Erik ten Hag wants most. It is unlikely they will sign all three players and everything depends on what happens with the takeover. Kane, Rice and Mount are exactly the kind of characters Ten Hag wants in his dressing room.”

It is clear that Kane will be the main target for United as Erik ten Hag has talked about signing a new striker and that is their main transfer need. It’s hard to see Tottenham selling Kane to direct top four rivals at Manchester United for just under $130 million, even as Kane’s contract expires. That said, will you take that money this summer and use it to rebuild? Or let it go for free in the summer of 2024?

After that, Declan Rice will surely be their next prime target as all three of these players have only one year left on their contracts. Rice, 24, is exactly the type of player United need in central midfield alongside Casemiro and the England international has become one of the best two-way midfielders in Europe under the age of 25. Rice’s close friend is Mason Mount and the latter is clearly not willing to sign a new contract with Chelsea so he could be the cheaper option of the three. This all hinges on the Manchester United takeover, but if they qualify for the Champions League as expected then signing two of these three players would be a huge upgrade from their current options and give them quality, depth and experience in midfield and attacking. The first choice would be Kane and Rice, but Kane and Mount would still be pretty decent. (JPW)
