Revealed: FIFA 23 rankings of three Manchester City players
It should come as no surprise to see three Manchester City players in the list of the 23 highest rated players in FIFA 23 when you consider the club’s dominating Premier League campaign 2021/22.
In fact, one of the members of this trio impressed so much last season that he is now the collectively highest-rated player in the game.
The Cityzens reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, winning their second consecutive Premier League title in what was another successful season under Pep Guardiola.
The ratings for the upcoming release of EA Sports will be based on last season’s players’ performances, hence their high ratings. However, if this season’s performances were also put into context when judging players, it would hardly hurt City’s side in terms of ratings, given the club’s fantastic start to the season.
Here are the three players included in the list released by EA today:
Erling Haaland: 88
It’s quite controversial that City’s new number nine has not been upgraded in its rating from the previous installment of the game, and remains at a rating of 88.
This seems harsh, given Haaland’s good goalscoring record for his former side Borussia Dortmund last season, where he scored 29 goals in 30 games across all competitions.
However, if the Norwegian maintains his remarkable goalscoring record this season, it would be nearly impossible for him to miss an upgrade next year.
Ederson: 89
The City shot-stopper is now the joint second-highest-rated goalkeeper in the game, with only Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer to be given a higher rating of 90.
The Brazil international is in good company, with compatriot Alison and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak both also receiving 89 scores.
The rating is arguably well deserved, with little distinction between City and Liverpool goalkeepers, while Oblak is comfortably the best goalkeeper in La Liga.
In any case, after a fine 2021/22 campaign, there was no basis for lowering Ederson’s rating, so the goalkeeper getting the same rating as in FIFA 22 seems reasonable.

Kevin De Bruyne: 91
The City playmaker maintains his FIFA 22 rating of 91, but with other players getting downgrades this year, the Belgian is now the collectively highest-rated player in the game.
In addition to De Bruyne, Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and the legendary Lionel Messi have all received 91 ratings, making them the highest-rated players in the game.
Messi was the top rated star last year, but his score of 93 has been subtracted by two.
De Bruyne now has a higher rating than both Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, who were both rated 91 last year but have been downgraded to 90 and 89 respectively.
Given the Belgian’s performance last season, it seems quite right that he belongs to the European elite.
The latest version of EA Sport’s major franchise will be released on September 30 in two weeks.
