Romeo Lavia transfer ‘bid prepared’ as Liverpool ‘go ahead’ in £40m race – Liverpool Echo
Liverpool would ‘prepare an opening bid’ for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
The 19-year-old signed for Manchester City’s Saints last summer, but could return after just one season following his club’s relegation from the Premier League. Reports have suggested Southampton will demand more than £40 million for the teenager, who made 34 appearances in all competitions in 2022/23.
Liverpool have already signed two midfielders this summer, with Alexis Mac Allister first through the door and followed yesterday by Dominik Szoboszlai. The Reds could add to this list, with Lavia still being linked with a move to Anfield.
It appears Jurgen Klopp’s side are now pressing ahead with an attempt to bring the youngster to Merseyside, with talkSPORT reporting that Liverpool are preparing a bid for the player. It is added that the Reds have ‘moved ahead’ of Chelsea in the race to sign Lavia, as Mauricio Pochettino is also seeking reinforcements in this area.

Liverpool parted ways with three players in this position this summer: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita all left the club on a free transfer late last month. Jude Bellingham has long been tipped as the key man to transform the Reds’ midfield, although it emerged in April that a deal for the England international was no longer possible.
Instead, Mac Allister was acquired for £35 million and Szoboszlai’s £60 million transfer was announced yesterday. Liverpool made the decision to activate this release clause in the latter’s contract, which was due to expire at midnight on 30 June.
