Senegal manager Aliou Cisse has confirmed Sadio Mane will stay at Bayern Munich this summer, after hinting he would be open to a return to the Premier League.

Mane, 31, has been linked with a move away from Bayern after a sub-par debut season at the Allianz Arena. The Senegal international made a £35.1 million move to Germany last summer after a six-year spell at Liverpool and has since scored 12 times in 38 appearances.

He was also suspended by the club in April after a clash with teammate Leroy Sane and was tipped to leave Bayern in the summer transfer window. The Saudi Pro League had targeted Mane as a potential recruit in an effort to further bolster the quality of the division.

N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves and Karim Benzema are among the high-profile players to have made the move to the Middle East so far this summer, with many more expected to follow. However, according to his national coach, Mané will not be among them.

Speaking to 2STV Senegal, Cisse said: “I have not heard anything about approaches from Saudi Arabia – what is certain is that he will stay with Bayern. He signed for three years. He spent one year and has two more. So yes, for now he will stay.” in Bavaria.”

Mane has also been linked with a return to the Premier League. Liverpool are invariably linked with an emotional reunion, while Newcastle are taking an interest as Eddie Howe looks to prepare his side for their upcoming Champions League campaign.

It seems Mane isn’t entirely against the idea of moving to Tyneside. So says former British MEP Martin Callahan, who met the Bayern star earlier this month at an EITI International conference in Senegal.

Take to Twitter with a photo of the pair together, he wrote: “I’m in Senegal speaking at the EITI conference. It’s an honor to meet Sadio Mane at the hotel. I couldn’t resist asking him if he will be back next season would come to Newcastle. His puzzling answer: ‘Never say never!'”

Mane enjoyed great success during his first spell in the Premier League. He scored 25 goals in 75 appearances for Southampton after joining from RB Salzburg.

That form convinced Liverpool to burst out on him, with Mane playing a key role in the side under Jürgen Klopp. He won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and more during a trophy-laden spell at Merseyside.

While his time at Bayern has been disappointing so far, Senegal team-mate Saliou Cisse has predicted that Mane will rediscover his form next season. Speaking to Canal+, he said: “Sadio has just entered a new league, a new environment. His injury has not helped. Next season he will be able to overcome all the problems and poor performances. We will see a new Sadio. ” Mane [next season].”
