For FC Goa, the monkey is finally off their back. For SC East Bengal, the wait is just getting longer. In a match, involving two of the tournament’s leakiest defences, FC Goa ended their three-match losing run, with a 4-3 win over the red-and-gold brigade at the Tilak Maidan.
Each time FC Goa went ahead, SC East Bengal responded with a comeback. But it was one comeback too many for the hosts as Jose Manuel Diaz’s side remained winless in five matches, conceding 14 goals in the process. Two scorching long-rangers — one each from FC Goa’s Alberto Noguera (14th minute) and East Bengal’s Antonio Perosevic (26) — set the game on a rollercoaster ride. Jorge Ortiz put Goa ahead again converting a penalty just after the half an hour mark but Amir Dervisevic came up with East Bengal’s reply within five minutes.
The hosts fell behind again just on the cusp of halftime when Perosevic ended up conceding an own goal. The game over? No way. The Croatian forward cashed it on Glan Martins’ bloomer to make it 3-3 in the 59th minute. However, FC Goa eventually had the last laugh with man-of-the-match Noguera administering the coup de grace through the heart of East Bengal defence with a cool finish in the 79th minute.
