Coronavirus Omicron India LIVE News: Assam became the first state in the country to repeal all Covid-related curbs and restrictions on Tuesday. The state is returning to the normalcy that prevailed before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. As of 6 a.m. Tuesday, all curbs were related, including curfews and restrictions on socio-religious gatherings, educational institutions lifted, PTI reported. According to an order from Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, the wearing of masks and social distancing in public places, as well as the use of hand sanitizers, will remain in effect until further orders.
India registered 27,409 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, a sharp drop from Monday’s 34,113 infections. The active number of cases in India now stands at 4,23,127, representing 0.99 percent of the total number of cases. During the same period, 347 fatalities have been reported, bringing the death toll from Covid-19 to 5,09,358. Daily Covid-19 cases have now been below 1 lakh for nine consecutive days. The daily and weekly positivity rates are at 2.23 percent and 3.63 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi announced that physical classes will resume for final-year postgraduate students from March 2 and for senior students from mid-March. The university has mandated a negative RTPCR report along with a valid ID card for those coming for offline classes. The decision came a day after schools resumed for students of all classes as Delhi saw a dip in Covid-19 cases.
