UEFA is changing the Super Cup rules ahead of the meeting between Sevilla and Manchester City – Football Espana
Last season, Sevilla won the Europa League for the seventh time, after a penalty victory over Roma in the final exactly four weeks ago.
Sevilla’s victory also ensured they would take part in next season’s UEFA Super Cup, taking on Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s side having won the Champions League.
The match will take place in Athens on August 16 and will feature a new change recently introduced by UEFA. From next season there will be no extra time in the Super Cup final (according to MD), if the match is drawn after 90 minutes. The match would instead go straight to penalties.
Sevilla have a very poor record in the Super Cup, having won only one of the six previous finals in the competition. They will certainly have to do their job against Man City as they look to double their numbers.
